Self-start and electric-start are often used interchangeably to refer to the same feature in motorcycles. Both terms describe the capability of a motorcycle's engine to be started by using an electric motor or starter motor, rather than relying on a kick-start mechanism.
In motorcycles equipped with self-start or electric-start systems, the rider can simply press a button or switch to activate the starter motor, which then cranks the engine to initiate combustion and start the motorcycle. This convenience eliminates the need for manual kick-starting, which can be physically demanding and sometimes unreliable.
While self-start and electric-start refer to the same functionality, it's important to note that not all motorcycles have this feature. Some motorcycles, especially older or smaller models, may rely solely on kick-starting by using a lever to manually engage the engine's crankshaft. In such cases, the motorcycle does not have a self-start or electric-start system.
